Salé, a millennium city

Una leyenda viva, “La leyenda de las dos orillas” cuenta la agitada historia de las dos ciudades gemelas Rabat y salé.

Ubicada en el Océano Atlántico en la desembocadura derecha del Buregreg, frente a la ciudad de Rabat, se encuentra Salé, cuya historia está marcada por eventos importantes y grandes incidentes.

Fundada en el siglo XI, esta ciudad conoció un gran desarrollo bajo las dinastías de los Almohade (siglo XII) y la de los Meriníes (siglo XIV),

Joya de la costa atlántica, Salé ofrece al visitante un cambio completo de escenario con su arquitectura medieval, sus monumentos y edificios históricos, así como sus zocos.

Originally, Salé and Rabat design the old Salé (Sala el Bali) and the new Salé (Sala Jdid) respectively. Salé was therefore largely the eldest of Rabat.

If Salé has had a glorious past as a prosperous port, which became known mainly from the 11th century as a corsair city. Today, the two cities proverbial rivalry is about to be absorbed in a process of unity thanks to the immense development of the Bouregreg valley site launched since 2006 with the big project Bab Al Bahr.

Yaakoub Al Mansour, the great Almohad winner of the Battle of Alarcos in Andalusia, builder of the Hassan Mosque on the left bank, will give Salé his big mosque, Masjid al-Aadham. It is one of the largest Moroccan mosques after the Hassan II mosque in Casablanca. The Merinid will leave their imprint in the transmission of knowledge through the construction of a sumptuous Madrassah (1333) adjoining this great mosque. In the vicinity of Sale, besides the banks of the Bouregreg and Marina, there are other sites to visit including the pottery complex of Oulja, the museum Ben Ghazi and the exotic gardens of Bouknadel.
